During her bachelor’s and subsequent master’s programme in Arabic literature at the Freie Universitaet Berlin Assia Soltani-Nkwo focussed on the formative history of early Arabic Literature, by considering together poetry, geographic and travel literature, theological writings and humoristic works. For her M.A.’s final thesis she investigated the formula phenomenon in literature and the treatment of objects.
Current research includes an EXC 2020 doctoral research project, Development and Phenomenology of the Arabic Literary Formulae in Different Domains and Periods
As a part of Research Area 3, “Future Perfect”, Assia Soltani-Nkwo joined the project "Premodern Anthologies" in order to further explore the use of formulae within Arabic anthologies and to integrate her own research concept into a wider comparative scope. In order to track the development of the formulae body, she intends to move across different epochs and disciplines, aiming to identify the phenomena’s global dimension and its strategic importance. Results will contribute to the EXC’s examination of literature’s impact on community building and the construction of temporalities.
