11 July 11:00–13:00 | Panel: The Futures of Doing Publishing / Publishing as Doing Literature
Part of the EXC 2020 Annual Conference 2025 "Futures of Doing Literature", 9–11 July 2025.
Publishing may be described as literature's interface with the world – a 'making public' of stories, imaginaries, theories and/or programmes that involves complex dynamics of people, techniques, temporalities, materialities, infrastructures, affordances and power relations. This panel critically explores horizons and potentials of this practice, bringing together perspectives engaged in the rethinking of editorial practices, the promotion of radical open access and the building of (digital) communities.
With:
Janneke Adema (The Centre for Postdigital Cultures, Coventry University) | Experiments with Radical and Alternative Publication Futures: Rethinking Distinctions between Research and Publishing
Johanna Maierski (Art Press and Risoprinting Studio "Colorama", Berlin) | Many Hands Make: Publishing as Collective Practice
Niki Rhyner (Center for Advanced Studies "Applied Humanities", Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin) | Counter-Knowledge: Histories and Futures of Alternative Publishing
Moderation: Olga Schubert (cultural worker and editor, From Now/Haus der Kulturen der Welt)
Invited by Anouk Luhn (Research Area 4: Literary Currencies/Constellations) and Christina Schmitt (EXC 2020 Publications Management).
