Panel 3: Material Communities

Community concepts nowadays conceptualise communities not only as interpersonal social figures, but as relations of people, objects, machines and other entities. It should be taken into account, for example, that publics (in the sense of audiences) are always bound to material temporal-spatial arrangements. If an audience becomes perceptible as a community (for itself or for others), then this is not least due to the temporal-spatial arrangement of the gathering in its concrete materiality (such as that of the exhibition space). If literature, as the cluster assumes, can create communities across times and spaces, then the communities must be thought of as diverse and tension-filled in material terms.
