Clear the Stage for Science - The Science Slam of the Berlin Clusters of Excellence

 

What does musical diplomacy sound like? Will the robot arm manage to find and open a drawer? And what materials can be used to create new habitats for marine animals?

As in the preceding years, the Science Slam, organised by the seven local Clusters of Excellence under the umbrella of the Berlin Science Week, gave entertaining insights into cutting-edge research from a wide range of academic disciplines. 

In a jam-packed Roadrunner's Paradise Club, digital literary scholar Laura Untner took to the stage to represent EXC 2020. Cheered on by an enthusiastic audience, she described her attempt to capture the ancient poet Sappho’s complex literary afterlife in an equally complex database, crashing her computer in the process.
