Hannah Schünemann is a dramaturge and scholar of literature and theatre. She worked as a research associate at EXC 2020 from 2021 to 2025, where she obtained her PhD on radical languages of form in contemporary theatre under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Doris Kolesch.
Hannah studied General and Comparative Literature and Theatre Studies in Munich (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität) and Paris (Université Paris-Sorbonne IV). She completed her MA at Freie Universität Berlin and the École normale supérieure Paris in 2016, with a thesis on ruptures in understanding in the work of Peter Szondi, Jacques Derrida and Paul Celan.
From August to November 2023, she was a visiting scholar at the PhD Program in Theatre and Performance at the City University New York.
As a dramaturge and cultural professional, she has worked at the Volksbühne Berlin, the Berliner Festspiele, the Performing Arts Festival and Ballhaus Ost, among others.
Former research includes an EXC 2020 doctoral research project, Ultraworlds. Radical Languages of Form in the Productions of Susanne Kennedy, Lucia Bihler, and Florentina Holzinger (2021–2025).
