Film Series | Transnational Filmmaking in Germany (2025)

Organised in cooperation with Sinema Transtopia, the film series aims to rethink the history of German cinema by examining the role of transnational filmmaking practices in Germany since the 1960s. The series unfolds over four evenings, each exploring a distinct facet or pathway of transnational filmmaking in Germany—ranging from filmmakers in exile and Turkish-German productions to the experiences of international film students.

Workshop | Transnational Film Archives and the Politics of Exclusion

The workshop, held in collaboration with Sinema Transtopia, delved into the complexities of transnational film archiving within the contested category of 'German film' and the unique challenges of archiving films in post-colonial contexts. It addressed the politics of film archiving, the influence of national institutions and frameworks, and the material aspects of film preservation, with a particular focus on the challenges posed by working with celluloid.
