Die Ausstellung "ErzählStoff. Neue Perspektiven auf Literatur" ist Teil einer Kollaboration zwischen dem EXC 2020 "Temporal Communities" und den Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin im Rahmen des neu entwickelten Forschungscampus Dahlem.
Bei Literatur denken wir meistens zuallererst an das gedruckte Buch. "ErzählStoff" fordert zum Perspektivwechsel heraus: Ausgehend u.a. von Orakelknochen, Paravents und Graphic Novels wird Literatur in ihrer Materialität, als gelebte Praxis und ästhetische Erfahrung in den Blick gerückt.
Ganz im Sinne dieser Ausstellungskonzeption konnte für die Eröffnungsfeier die iranische Musikerin Elshan Ghasimi gewonnen werden. Sie wird zusammen mit dem Rezitator Dennis Hopp (Musikethnologie der SMB) für diesen Anlass eine Performance entwickeln, in der persische Lyrik in Musik und Gesang übersetzt wird.
Neben Grußworten von Prof. Dr. Alexis von Poser und Prof. Dr. Patricia Rahemipour (Sprecher*innen FC Dahlem) wird Prof. Dr. Andrew James Johnston (Freie Universität Berlin/Co-Sprecher EXC 2020) ausgehend von den präsentierten Objekten in die Vielfalt literarischer Erscheinungsformen einführen.
Anschließend eröffnen die anwesenden Expert*innen und Künstler*innen mitten zwischen den Stellwänden in Kurzvorträgen und in Gesprächen mit den Besucher*innen ungeahnte Zugänge zur Ausstellung und teilen zugleich ihren sehr persönlichen Blick auf die jeweiligen Gegenstände.
Seit 2016 lebt sie in Deutschland, wo sie weiterhin als Solistin auftritt, komponiert und mit renommierten Ensembles wie Concerto Köln musiziert. Ihr Werk verbindet das persische musikalische Erbe mit vielfältigen Musikgenres – darunter zeitgenössische klassische Musik, Jazz, experimentelle Musik und Alte Musik. Dennis Hopp (*1981) stammt aus Lingen (Ems). Er studierte Musikwissenschaft, Neuere deutsche Literaturwissenschaft und Kulturwissenschaftliche Anthropologie an der Universität Paderborn. 2021/2023 Mitarbeit im Projekt "Time in Sound and Music/Music and Sound in Time" und im Digitalisierungsprojekt MDVOS am Berliner Ethnologischen Museum/Museum für Asiatische Kunst, seit Sommer 2023 Sammlungsverwalter der Abteilung Medien.
Während des Studiums entdeckte Dennis Hopp seine Liebe zur Lyrik insbesondere des Fin de Siècle, die er gerne im Rahmen von Rezitationskonzerten vorträgt.

Opening of the Exhibition "The Stuff of Narrative"
"The Stuff of Narrative – New Perspectives on Literature" is the product of a collaboration between EXC 2020 "Temporal Communities" and the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.
When we think of literature, we tend to think of printed books. The exhibition "The Stuff of Narrative" at the newly established Forschungscampus Dahlem challenges this assumption: Items as diverse as oracle bones, folding-screens and graphic novels form the basis of an exploration of literature as a lived practice and aesthetic experience that is inevitably based on, and fundamentally shaped by, tangible materiality.
In line with this curatorial approach, the opening event will feature the Iranian master musician Elshan Ghasimi. Together with the reciter Dennis Hopp (Music Ethnology, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin), she will present a bespoke performance in which Persian poetry is translated into music and song.
The evening will open with a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Alexis von Poser and Prof. Dr. Patricia Rahemipour (directors of Forschungscampus Dahlem). Prof. Dr. Andrew James Johnston (Freie Universität Berlin/co-director of EXC 2020) will then draw on the objects showcased in order illustrate the highly diverse forms in which literature becomes manifest.
Afterwards, the artists and experts in attendance will give short talks and engage in conversation with visitors all throughout the exhibition space, opening up new and unexpected perspectives on the items displayed while sharing their individual approaches.
Since 2016, she has been based in Germany, where she continues to compose and perform as a soloist, collaborating with ensembles such as Concerto Köln. Her work connects Persian musical traditions with a wide range of genres, including contemporary classical music, jazz, experimental music and early music. Dennis Hopp (*1981, Lingen/Ems, Germany) studied musicology, modern German literature and cultural anthropology at Paderborn University. In 2021 and 2023, he contributed to the projects "Time in Sound and Music / Music and Sound in Time" and the digitisation project MDVOS at the Ethnologisches Museum / Museum für Asiatische Kunst in Berlin, where he currently holds the position of collection manager in the media department.
During his studies, Dennis Hopp discovered a passion for lyric poetry, especially that of the fin de siècle, which he performs in recital formats.
