This round table is part of the exhibition "The Stuff of Narrative – New Perspectives on Literature", product of a collaboration between EXC 2020 and the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.

Author and illustrator Reem Helou and scholar Dr. Rasha Chatta (Freie Universität Berlin) explore graphic storytelling as a form of visual narrative, with a focus on Arab diaspora literature and the circulation of texts and images in migratory contexts.

Round Table | Grafische Erzählungen von Migration

Dieser Round Table ist Teil der Veranstaltungsreihe zur Ausstellung "ErzählStoff. Neue Perspektiven auf Literatur", einer Kollaboration zwischen dem EXC 2020 "Temporal Communities" und den Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin im Rahmen des neu entwickelten Forschungscampus Dahlem.

Reem Helou flieht 2015 im Alter von 29 Jahren aus Syrien über die Balkanroute nach Europa. Während der gefährlichen Flucht hält Helou ihre Erlebnisse in Handyfotos, Google-Maps-Screenshots und kurzen Notizen fest. Aus diesem dokumentarischen Material entsteht wenig später die Graphic Novel Die Balkanroute. Im Rahmen des Round Tables diskutieren Szenografin und Illustratorin Reem Helou und Dr. Rasha Chatta (Freie Universität Berlin) grafisches Erzählen mit einem Schwerpunkt auf Literatur der arabischen Diaspora und beleuchten die Zirkulation von Texten und Bildern im Kontext von Migrationsbewegungen.
