Echo. Echo. Indigenous Voices | Body Memories: Billy-Ray Belcourt & Tony Jensen

Sep 16, 2021 | 09:00 PM

Two authors, two essay memoirs, both of which place the body, its exposed position and its political facture at the center of literary exploration: In his essay "A History of My Brief Body" [2020], Billy-Ray Belcourt, a member of the Driftpile Cree Nation, explores the complex entanglement of explicit and structural colonial violence and queer sexuality.

Toni Jensen, a member of the Métis, traces various topographies of violence that permeate and structure body and land alike in "Carry: A Memoir of Survival on Stolen Land" [2020].

Billy-Ray Belcourt will be joining us live over video call.
