Listen, Read & Watch | A Videoseries on Performance and Communities

Organised by Dr. Anna-Lena Werner as part of the research project "Circulating Narratives – Entangling Communities: Case Studies in Global Performance Art" of Research Area 2 "Travelling Matters".

"A Video Series on Performance and Community" is a collection of lectures organised by Dr. Anna-Lena Werner as part of the research project "Circulating Narratives – Entangling Communities: Case Studies in Global Performance Art" (Project Lead: Prof. Dr. Annette Jael Lehmann). The research project is based at the Cluster of Excellence EXC 2020 Temporal Communities: Doing Literature in a Global Perspective at Freie Universität Berlin in collaboration with Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin. It accompanies the museum's exhibition "Collecting Entanglements and Embodied Histories" (curated by Gridthiya Gaweewong, Anna-Catharina Gebbers, Grace Samboh, June Yap, initiated by the Goethe-Institut), which will open in 2021.

The lecture series brings together a selection of 15-min video presentations by internationally active artists, curators, and scholars. With a focus on case studies of their individual practices, the lecturers discuss urgent research questions, changes and current tendencies in performance art, as well as the challenges and possibilities of presenting it in an exhibition, digital or public space. The lectures thus feed into the Cluster project “Circulating Narratives – Entangling Communities” investigation of how performative practices relate to embodying histories, the transfer of embodied knowledge, transcultural exchange, and the establishing of (temporal or lasting) communities.

The video series will be published online on Friday, 27 November 2020 on the Cluster's website and its YouTube channel.
