âm u əm˧˧ u˧˧. A Moving Poem of the Vietnamese Alphabet by Nhã Thuyên

When the alphabet moves, and the voice goes silent.

Nhã Thuyên secludedly anchors herself to Hà Nội, Việt Nam and totters between languages as a writer, translator, and editor. In 2023/2024, she was a DAAD Artists-in-Berlin fellow. Her videopoem “âm u əm˧˧ u˧˧” is part of the exploratory research project READING READING: IL/LEGIBLE, realised by Barbara Bausch. Poetological reflections by Nhã Thuyên can be found in her Essay “Retracing Signs” in the publication Illegibilites Reflecting Reading (2025).
