Im Rahmen der neoformalistischen Filmtheorie wurde eine Idee einer "historical poetics of cinema" formuliert, die hier in ihrem theoretischen Kontext verortet und in ihren Implikationen vorgestellt wird. Ausgehend von der Rezeptionsgeschichte und der Kritik an diesem Ansatz wird eine alternative Lesart von historischer Poetik entworfen.
