Positions

You have to meet the requirements (PhD) specified in the job posting in order to take up the position. (Please note that a PhD is not required for the position in RA 5). The Freie Universität Berlin recognises the day of your successful thesis defence as your graduation. If you haven’t completed the degree at the time of submitting the application, please enclose a document confirming that you will have received your PhD when the position starts. Ideally, this document will include the scheduled date of your thesis defence. You must submit an official notice of completion (most commonly the preliminary PhD certificate) before your employment officially starts.

The position will be filled as soon as possible (following the application deadline, we will begin the evaluation process, job interviews and recruitment procedures). We aim to fill the position by May 2021.

Your application should consist of a cover letter, a CV including a list of publications, copies of university certificates and certificates of language proficiency (if necessary). It should also include a synopsis of no more than five pages on the planned research project in either English or German.

Submitting writing samples (max. 30 pages) as well as no more than two letters of recommendation is optional.

If your native language is neither English nor German, you should ideally provide a certificate of language proficiency. Degrees and extended stays at a German- or English-medium university are considered equivalent proof.

You are welcome to apply for more than one of the open positions. Please make sure that your proposed projects fit the profile of the respective Research Areas. This should also be reflected in your synopses.

Yes, the synopsis should include all information you consider vital to the proposed project (e.g. footnotes/endnotes, short bibliography, images). However, please be sure to adhere to the five page limit.
