Positions

For assuming the position, you have to meet the requirements (PhD) specified in the job posting. The Freie Universität Berlin recognizes the day of your successful thesis defense as your graduation. If you haven’t completed the degree by the time of application, please enclose a document that assures that you will able to finish the PhD by the time the position starts. Ideally, the scheduled date for your thesis defense should be mentioned in this document. By the date that your employment officially starts, an official notice of completion (most commonly the preliminary PhD certificate) has to be submitted.

The position will be filled as soon as possible (after expiration of the application deadline, evaluation process, job interviews and recruitment procedures). We aim to fill the position by April 2019.

Your application should consist of a letter of motivation, CV including list of publications, copies of university certificates and certificates of language proficiency (if necessary). Submitting writing samples (max. 30 pages), as well as max. two letters of recommendation is optional.

For any language that is not your native language, you should ideally provide a certificate of language proficiency. Degrees and extended stays at a German or English-speaking university are considered equivalent proof.

Of course, it is possible to apply for more than one of the open positions. We highly recommend making sure that your project fits the profile of the respective Research Area. This should also be evident from your exposé.

Yes, the exposé should include all information applicants consider vital to the proposed project (e.g. footnotes/endnotes, short bibliography, images). Please make sure to stick to the maximum limit of five pages.
