The event is held in German.

Organised by Eva Geulen (ZfL/HU Berlin) and Melanie Möller (Freie Universität Berlin)

A cooperation of the Leibniz-Zentrum für Literatur- und Kulturforschung and the Cluster of Excellence "Temporal Communities: Doing Literature in a Global Perspective"

For a long time, the categories of style and rhetoric were virtually inseparable; in fact, even today, it proves difficult to determine their relationship with any degree of transparency. The conference aims at investigating the similarities and differences from both a historical as well as a systematic, theoretical perspective. Present challenges demand, in a new and ever increasing way, to address the relationship between formations of style and rhetoric and the sphere of action, especially political action. In exploring this dimension, the conference will draw on investigations of conceptual and theoretical history, but also on case studies. The present will thus form the starting point from which the eventful history of style and rhetoric will be examined.

Admission is free of charge, there is no need to register in advance.
