Mobile Avantgarden. Netzwerke der Moderne im nördlichen und östlichen Europa
Jutta Müller-Tamm, Sylwia Werner (Eds.) – 2025
The most recent collective volume edited by Jutta Müller-Tamm in collaboration with Sylwia Werner (University of Konstanz) is dedicated to forgotten avant-garde and modernist movements in Northern and Eastern Europe. Literary and cultural-historical scholarship tends to focus on the western part of Europe while neglecting the Scandinavian, Baltic and East-Central European sites of modernism in the arts and literature. Accordingly, the emergence of the phenomenon and the avant-gardes that produced it are still largely equated with the history of the West. In order to fill this lacuna, the collection explores the interactions and migratory movements of avant-garde actors and concepts from a Pan-European perspective, opening up new fields of research through interdisciplinary cooperation between German, Scandinavian, Baltic and Slavic studies as well as art and cultural studies.
