Global networking and international collaboration are central to EXC 2020’s aims. The Cluster brings together an extensive and vibrant international network of academic and cultural partners, spanning universities, libraries and arts institutions around the world.

We are continually expanding and strengthening this global research community through our fellowship, artist-in-residence and mobility programmes. These enable scholars and artists from diverse backgrounds and at all stages of their careers to collaborate, fostering a truly international and interdisciplinary approach to research.

How to Join

There are two main ways to become a research fellow and take part in the exciting work happening at the Cluster:

Each year, we launch calls for fellowships aimed at doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, with a particular focus on scholars from the Global South. These calls are distributed through our international network, the liaison offices of Freie Universität Berlin, and our ever-growing community of former fellows, ensuring broad and inclusive outreach.

Artists and scholars at all career levels – from PhD students via postdocs to tenured professors – are invited to explore the wide range of scholarly and artistic endeavours being pursued at EXC 2020. If a specific research project aligns with your interests, we encourage you to reach out directly to the members involved. Collaborations often lead to fellowship invitations, which in turn provide a framework for joint activities such as co-teaching, organising lecture series, planning conferences or workshops, curating exhibitions and co-authoring publications.
