Reading Vogue, Then and Now: Samira Spatzek's article on the INSIGHTS blog

News from Apr 12, 2024

EXC 2020 member Samira Spatzek (Research Area 1: "Competing Communities") has recently published a piece entitled "Reading Vogue, Then and Now" on the INSIGHTS blog of the John W. Kluge Center at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC, USA.

In it, she discusses the relationship between nineteenth-century Vogue magazine, the photography of F. Holland Day, and racialised inscriptions. This research is part of her current project "The Cultural Work of Competing Fashion Literatures in Nineteenth-Century America". The archival research for the blog post was done during her fellowship at the John W. Kluge Center (German federal fellowship) in 2023. The fellowship is jointly awarded by the Kluge Center and the German Association for American Studies (DGfA).
